Residents of areas vulnerable for childbirth receive +KRW 200,000. When to apply
You can apply right after the pregnancy is confirmed at a hospital and you receive the pregnancy confirmation certificate (usually weeks 5~6). Application and use are possible until 2 years after the expected delivery date (childbirth date).
How to apply
Step 1: Pregnancy confirmation certificate from a medical institution (paper or electronic transmission) -> Step 2: Apply for the voucher by visiting a National Health Insurance Service branch, card company, or financial institution, or via the NHIS website/app/phone, the Government24 (정부24) 'Mom-Friendly Pregnancy' (맘편한 임신) one-stop service, or a community service center (주민센터) or public health center (보건소). The National Happiness Card is issued by BC, Lotte, Samsung, Shinhan, KB Kookmin, or Hyundai Card (Hyundai Card payment service starts July 2026). Inquiries: National Health Insurance 1577-1000.
Important notes
Apply up to 2 years after the expected delivery date (childbirth date); use is also allowed until the same time, and any unused balance expires. If you apply right after pregnancy confirmation, you can use it from your first prenatal visit.
Note
Based on KRW 1,000,000 for a single fetus (KRW 1,400,000 for multiples + additional payment). The additional payment for multiples applies to those who, since Jan. 1, 2024, maintain or have given birth after a multiple pregnancy of 20 weeks or more; the Ministry of Health and Welfare states that for those applying since Jan. 1, 2025, the additional KRW 600,000 (for 2 fetuses) is applied automatically along with the base amount. No income or asset requirements. Remaining balance expires automatically after the usage period ends. Cannot be used to buy quasi-drugs such as health functional foods (only drugs approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety). Teen mothers (age 19 or under) may receive an additional KRW 1,200,000 separately (see the separate item).
