- Benefit
- Cancer 5% (5 years from the registration date), severe burns 5% (1 year), tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis 0%. For cerebrovascular and heart diseases, 5% for a set period after hospital admission for surgery, etc. (period varies by disease). Non-covered items and items paid entirely by the patient are excluded.
- Who is eligible
- National health insurance members and Medical Aid (의료급여) recipients with a confirmed diagnosis of cancer, severe burns, cerebrovascular or heart disease, tuberculosis, etc.
- When to apply
- If registered within 30 days of diagnosis, it applies retroactively from the diagnosis date
- How to apply
- Fill out the Special Copayment registration form at the diagnosing medical institution, then submit it to an NHIS branch (in person, by mail, by fax, or through the medical institution's proxy submission)
- Important notes
- Applying within 30 days of the diagnosis date makes it apply from the diagnosis date; after that, it applies from the application date
- Note
- Rare, severe intractable and severe dementia conditions are separate (10%). Not income-dependent. Re-registration is required after 5 years (for cancer, upon re-diagnosis).
