Benefit
Locally insured persons whose income decreased due to business suspension, job loss or leave, disasters or accidents and who cannot pay premiums can apply for a payment exception for the period the reason continues (National Pension Act Article 91). The exempted period is not counted toward the insured period; check with the National Pension Service whether the insured period can be restored through later payment.
Who is eligible
Locally insured persons of the National Pension (the self-employed) whose business stopped or closed or whose income decreased
When to apply
Apply at any time when the reason arises · payment resumes when the reason ends (confirmed by the Service once a year)
How to apply
National Pension Service (국민연금공단) branch · My Pension (내연금, www.nps.or.kr) · customer center 1355
Important notes
Since premiums go unpaid during the exception, your future pension amount may decrease — check the guidance on additional payment (추납).
Note
Durunuri applies to employees and employers insured at a workplace (not the self-employed locally insured person themselves). When income is reported, the pension premium is based on the reported monthly income.
